TORONTO -- Kyle Lowry and Norm Powell have a three-point shooting competition before every game -- the first to make five shots from five spots wins. And so Powell was quick to nab the credit for Lowry's hot hand after the Toronto Raptors cruised to an easy 113-80 victory Friday over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Los Angeles bid committee for the 2024 Olympics released details of a nearly unheard-of budget plan Friday, insisting $5.3 billion US will be enough to cover both operational and infrastructure costs for an Olympics that won't need any new, permanent stadiums. The cost would be less than half that of the recently completed Rio Games and about a quarter of Tokyo's ballooning budget for the 2020 Olympics.
It worked in Winnipeg against the Jets Thursday with the Edmonton Oilers No. 2 centre working nicely five-on-five with McDavid and on the power play with Draisaitl scoring twice and adding an assist. McLellan has resisted loading up his No. 1 line with McDavid, Draisaitl and Milan Lucic on the left, but didn't feel he was getting enough offence from Jordan Eberle or rookie Jesse Puljujarvi on the right, so wants a look at Draisaitl, who played right-wing and centre last year.

In the end, Quebec Nordiques prevailed 9-8 over Edmonton Oilers in National Hockey League action, proving conclusively that defensive hockey is a passing fad, like Beehive Corn Syrup labels.
